An emoticon (/ɨˈmoʊtɨkɒn/) is a pictorial representation of a facial expression using punctuation marks and letters, usually written to express a person's feelings or mood.

Emoticons are often used to alert a responder to the tenor or temper of a statement, and can change and improve interpretation of plain text; emoticons for a smiley face :-) and sad face :-( appear in the first documented use in digital form. The word is a portmanteau word of the English words emotion and icon. In web forums, instant messengers andonline games, text emoticons are often automatically replaced with small corresponding images, which came to be called emoticons as well. Certain complex character combinations can only be accomplished in a double-byte language, giving rise to especially complex forms, sometimes known by their romanized Japanese name of kaomoji.

The use of emoticons can be traced back to the 19th century, and they were commonly used in casual and humorous writing.They are used mainly in text messages and emails. Digital forms of emoticons on the Internet were included in a proposal by Scott Fahlman of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in a message on 19 September 1982.

Pertanyaan.

Syaikh Muhammad bin Shalih Al-Utsaimin ditanya : Alhamdulillah saya merasa mantap dengan pensyari’atan hijab yang menutup seluruh badan, saya pun telah melaksanakannya dengan mengenakan hijab tersebut sejak beberapa tahun. Saya pernah membaca beberapa buku yang membahas hijab, terutama buku-buku tafsir pada bagian yang membahas hijab saat menafsirkan sebagian surat Al-Qur’an, seperti An-Nur dan Al-Ahzab. Tapi saya tidak tahu bagaimana memadukan antara pakaian kaum muslimat pada masa Nabi Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, para Khulafaur Rasyidin, para Khalifah Bani Umayyah dan urgensi hijab yang hampir saya anggap wajib atas semua wanita ?

Jawaban...
Harus kita ketahui, bahwa masa Nabi Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam terbagi menjadi dua :

Pertama : Masa sebelum diwajibkan hijab. Pada saat itu, kaum wanita tidak menutup wajah dan tidak diwajibkan berlindung dibalik tabir.

Kedua : Masa setelah diwajibkannya hijab, yaitu setelah tahun keenam. Saat itu kaum wanita diwajibkan berhijab, sehingga mereka, sebagaimana diperintahkan Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala kepada NabiNya Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam agar mengatakan kepada putri-putrinya, isteri-isterinya dan isteri-isteri kaum mukminin ; Hendaknya mereka mengulurkan jilbab mereka, sehingga mereka mengenakan kain hitam dan tidak ada yang tampak dari tubuh mereka kecuali sebelah mata untuk melihat jalanan. Alhamdulillah, di negara kita sampai saat ini kondisinya masih tetap pada jalan ini, yakni Al-Kitab dan As-Sunnah.

Semoga Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala melanggengkan apa yang telah dianugerahkan kepada kaum wanita kita, yaitu hijab yang menutup seluruh tubuh sesuai dengan tuntunan Kitabullah, sunnah RasulNya Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam dan pandangan yang benar.
